FOD Futures – Josh and Lorna

Welcome to our first edition of FOD Futures. This is our new feature post where we give you an insight into and highlight key members of staff to showcase the talent behind the company. This month Justin picked the brains of the two people behind Fleetondemand’s digital team, Josh, and Lorna. As Lorna has just finished her Digital Marketing apprenticeship with us, we thought it would be a good opportunity for you to get to know the team behind Fleetondemand’s digital strategy.

Lorna

Name/ Age / Position

Lorna 21 Digital Marketing Assistant

Where you’ve come from

I come from a background in digital creative media which was studied throughout higher education, most of my knowledge is self-taught as I had an eye for creativity from a younger age. In the past year I have studied a digital marketing apprenticeship with QA apprenticeships which I have recently completed.

How you got to FOD

I joined FOD with a stroke of luck when a role that I had with another company fell through, Justin found me on LinkedIn and got into contact as it just so happens that FOD was looking for an apprentice to work in digital. I was invited for an interview and then a year later here I am.

Your Ambitions/What you hope to do in the future

In my future I hope to achieve a managerial role within digital marketing, the idea of managing my own team and working together to complete tasks is something I hope to land myself at in the future. I hope to do this by taking on extra responsibilities within my workplace and completing higher qualifications to ensure that I am an expert when it comes to my area of work.

How did FOD help you in first year

FOD helped me in my first year with my time management, my knowledge in not only my chosen role but educating myself in other areas such as fleet, mobility and IT. Every day, I am constantly learning new things because of Fleetondemand – It has also encouraged me to come out of my shell by attending team outings and taking on responsibilities that I wouldn’t usually be interested in, but because of this I have gained more confidence within myself.

If you could describe the company as an animal what would it be?

An animal I would use to describe FOD would be horses as not only do they work great independently but great as part as a team.

If you could describe the CEO as an animal what would it be?

To describe my CEO as an animal would be an elephant, an elephant is described as strong, loyal to the group and unstoppable.

Josh

Name/ Age / Position

My name is Josh Illingworth, I’m 22 years old and im currently a Digital Marketing Assistant at Fleetondemand. I have worked at Fleetondemand for 3 years at the time of writing this and the first one of those years was spent as an apprentice.

Where you’ve come from

After attending Manchester Metropolitan University to study Digital Media & Communication for a foundation year I decided that university wasn’t for me and moved back home to Bradford to try another route. I was looking for an apprenticeship as I was always a kinaesthetic learner (I learn by doing and getting hands-on).

After several weeks of looking I came across Fleetondemand. They were advertising a Digital Marketing Assistant position. I came in for an interview and was surprised that the company was right on my doorstep only living 5 minutes away. A week later I had bagged the job!

How you got to FOD

I have always had an interest in Digital Media from an early age. I had decided that I wanted to get involved with something marketing related, so I could apply my design skills to a work place. Initially, a business to business in-house marketing position was not on my radar and I was aiming to break into a more business to a consumer-based role.

However, once I had started, my knowledge of business that I had gained through my qualifications kicked in and now I prefer this working environment.

Your Ambitions/What you hope to do in the future

Having learnt a wide plethora of skills and the activities I have carried out in my job over the past 3 years I am looking to branch out into more design-based roles in the future. One area I am particularly interested in is UX/UI design. I am also looking to move up to a more senior Executive/Co-ordinator role as I believe I have the skills and experience now to make impactful decisions and manage projects.

How did FOD help you in first year

Fleetondemand helped me in my first year by giving me a chance to break into the world of work. They put me through a marketing qualification which I learnt the basis for all the marketing activities I carried out in the first year to build my career and knowledge. I was also welcomed into a great team of people and I also go to work on and dramatically improve my soft skills such as communication and phone etiquette/manor.

How can FOD improve

I think Fleetondemand is an excellent company to work for however all companies have certain aspects they can build upon. As we get bigger I think we need to adopt procedures put in place by much bigger companies to keep up with the ever-growing team but this is an improvement I am already aware our business is taking hold of.

If you could describe the company as an animal what would it be?

A horse. Hard working, friendly.

If you could describe the CEO as an animal what would it be?

Head lion, leader of the pack, strong, fierce and determined to succeed.
